Aerial View of West Monroe (February 2007), showing Interstate 20 and the Ouachita (pronounced "Wash' e taw)River which divides West Monroe and Monroe. Native Americans originally called the local waterway "Washita", which means "the river of sparkling silver water". The French settlers named it Ouachita in the 1700's.
West Monroe is located in northeast Louisiana, approximately 90 miles east of Shreveport and 120 miles west of Jackson, MS. West Monroe was originally named Cotton Port in 1859, but because a town in Avoyelles Parish already existed with the same name, it was changed in 1883 to West Monroe, and incorporated in 1889.
Community is an essential part of family, of lifestyle, and of real estate.
Understanding local conditions in Northeast Louisiana is important when it comes to buying and selling real estate, but the neighborhood you choose can have a dramatic impact on all other aspects of your life as well.
